Death Runemagic
The School of Necromancy embodies the magical element of Death; Rot, pain, illness and disease. Necromancers wield and shape poison and pure damage to their advantage, and as opposed to those who are expected to raise the dead, some are capable of warding it's effects - Or forcing the embrace of it's power on others.

The following list of spells are able to be researched and cast by Runemages wielding a magical focus of Death, utilizing the magical essence of agony to their own or other's benefit. The effects of each spell are listed so that everyone knows how to respond to them in roleplay, along with their casters, but they must still be properly cast according to Runemagic's rules, alongside researched and learnt through the in-character research process detailed here.

Initiate - Runeless Spells

Name: Disease
Target: A living creature within range
Duration: 1 Action
Range: 5 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: You imbue a creature within range with a sensation of bad feeling and general sickness. This feeling does not cause any real, truly sickening effect (such as bowel movements, illness, or otherwise), only mimicking the feeling and imposing it on the creature. This provides no combative disadvantage, and can be shrugged off.


Apprentice - 2 Rune Spells

Name: Cause Injury
Target: A creature within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: Touch
Focus: No

Description: You focus harming magic on your target, directing it to inflict minor wounds. Upon contact, a necrotic injury is inflicted at the point of contact, such as a small cut, bruise, or fracture of bone.


Name: Decompose
Target: A target within range
Duration: 10 Actions
Range: Touch
Focus: No

Description: You reach out and touch the inanimate corpse of a creature or a living plant. Over the next minute, the corpse begins to rapidly decompose, sprouting fungus and moss as it begins to degrade into compost and mulch. An off-colored flower or two may also spring from the corpse at this time; If decomposing a plant, it causes it to become brittle, rotting away as it grays rapidly.


Name: Acid Spray
Target: A 5x3 block cone originating from you in any direction
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: Self (5x3 block cone)
Focus: No

Description: You conjure a stream of acid and spray it in a 5x3 block cone in any direction originating from you. The acid splashes on contact, melting through iron or steel armour. Any exposed flesh the acid touches receives 2nd degree chemical burns.


Name: Cause Fear
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 20 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: You extend a deathly aura towards a creature you can see within range, invading its mind and filling it with unsettling thoughts. Mindless and unintelligent creatures, such as wild animals, will run from you rather than fight. When done to mindful creatures, like people or otherwise, they become Frightened.


Name: Death Facade
Target: A creature you can see within range.
Duration: 1 OOC Hour
Range: Touch
Focus: No

Description: You target a willing creature you can touch and feign their death. The target is considered dead for all purposes, and any non-magical inspections of the corpse reach a similar conclusion. Whilst under the effects of this spell, the target is unconscious and incapacitated. The target awakens unharmed at the end of the spell’s duration.


Name: Defy Senses
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: Up to 3 emotes
Range: 10 Blocks
Focus: Yes

Description: You target a creature you can see within range, afflicting them with vile necrotic energy that inhibits their ability to see or hear. When you first cast this spell, you choose whether to Blind or Deafen the creature for the duration.


Name: Drain Life
Target: A creature within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: Touch
Focus: No

Description: You touch a creature, inflicting it with necrosis on contact - decaying skin and causing a horrible pain, comparable to that of a second degree burn. When doing this, you sap a small amount of life from the creature, turning a major wound of your own to minor, or healing a single minor wound.


Adept - 3 Rune Spells

Name: Cause Agony
Target: A creature within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: Touch
Focus: No

Description: You focus harming magic on your target, directing it to inflict major wounds. Upon contact, a necrotic injury is inflicted at the point of contact, such a large gash, laceration, single broken bone, and damages that would perhaps be detrimental. The damage begins when you cast this spell and completes at the start of your next turn.


Name: Withering Aura
Target: A 5x5 cube centred on yourself
Duration: Up to 5 emotes
Range: Self (5x5 cube)
Focus: Yes

Description: You summon an aura of deathly green magic that surrounds you in a 5x5 cube, moving as you do. The aura rapidly reduces physical strength from all living creatures within its radius. After two actions of remaining within the radius, those afflicted become as weak as an infant child. Undead creatures and constructs are unaffected. As the caster, you are unaffected by the effects of this spell. A creature who has been weakened by this spell will return to full strength after two turns spent outside the aura.


Name: Corruption
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: 10 emotes
Range: 15 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: You target a creature you can see within range, marking them with a vile corruption that permeates their form. For the spell’s duration, any wounds the target has sustained cannot be healed through magical means, including alchemical mixtures.


Name: Death Gaze
Target: A line 20 blocks long and 1 block wide emanating from you in a direction you choose
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 20 blocks
Focus: No

Description: You cast forth a ray of necrotic energy from your eyes in a straight line in front of you. Any living flesh caught within the beam is Any living flesh that the ray makes contact with is severely decayed by necrosis, causing injuries comparable to 3rd degree burns. The effects of this spell also apply to plants and other living matter.


Name: Poison Cloud

Target: A 5x5 cube centered on yourself
Duration: 5 emotes
Range: Self (5x5)
Focus: No


Description: You cast out a plume of poisonous gas in a 5x5 cube centered around yourself. Living creatures besides the caster caught in the gas have trouble breathing; If they stay in the cloud for 2 rounds, they are rendered incapable of breathing. If someone stays in the cloud for 3 emotes, they pass out, going unconscious from the poisonous gas. The caster is immune to the spell.


Expert - 4 Rune Spells

Name: Delay End
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: Up to 10 Emotes
Range: Touch
Focus: Yes

Description: You cut a creature’s string of death, twisting their life askew; It appears to do not much, until the target of the creature dies - In which they are risen again, stronger. After being risen again, for the duration of the spell, the target is incapable of perishing regardless of any wounds short of beheading or extreme destruction. Should they reasonably perish during the duration of the spell, however, they will immediately die at the end of the spell’s duration. A creature under the effect of this spell is additionally immune to pain and fear. One notable thing, however; The target cannot be healed during the duration after they've died, as they are no longer truly 'alive'.


Name: Wither Limb
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: Touch
Focus: No

Description: You instantaneously destroy a creature’s body part, attempting to annihilate it with necrotic power. Touching one of their limbs, you annihilate it in its entirety - the limb withers, drops from the creature’s body, and crumbles to dust. The wound left by the removal of the limb is covered in necrotic rot. This spell does not work on the head or torso.
