Aeromancy
The School of Aeromancy embodies the magical prowess of the element of Air - Unlike it's title, it is capable of much more than simple wind evocations. Summoning crackling thunder and falling lightning, Aeromancers wield and shape wind and lightning to their advantage, electrocuting foes and causing disorienting or aiding gusts of wind.

The following list of spells are able to be researched and cast by Runemages wielding a magical focus of Air, influencing the power of storms and hurricanes. The effects of each spell are listed so that everyone knows how to respond to them in roleplay, along with their casters, but they must still be properly cast according to Runemagic's rules, alongside researched and learnt through the in-character research process detailed here.


Initiate - Runeless Spells

Name: Gust
Target: A point within range
Duration: 1 Action
Range: 5 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: You create a small gust of wind from your focus, enough to create a distinct feeling, as if a fan. You can also create a small static shock through touch, but not enough to harm. This can, additionally, allow you to snuff out candles, small campfires, or torches within range.


Apprentice - 2 Rune Spells

Name: Whisper
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 20 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: The caster speaks, but is inaudible, as they use magic to bestow their breath with transpositional power, magically making their target hear their voice - However, only they can hear it. The target can respond similarly, and the message is carried back to the caster instantaneously. This can only be performed within range, and is only able to be done while the caster can see the person.


Name: Slipstream
Target: A willing creature you can see within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 10 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: You focus your power into the nature of physics and rapidly accelerate yourself or another creature across space, instantly moving to another point within range that you can normally move to. If you move into the space another creature or object is occupying, then you are shoved out of that space into an adjacent one. You cannot afflict the physical world while in motion to the other point, as it is instantaneous. All equipment and items travel with you, as well, including bindings or similar.


Name: Circle of Silence
Target: A 3x3 cube centered on a point you can see within range
Duration: 5 emotes
Range: 10 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: You create a 5x5 cube of magical silence. Any target inside cannot make noise within that radius, and nobody within the radius is capable of hearing sounds occurring outside of the affected area. The silence effect ends on a creature if it leaves the radius.


Name: Lightning Bolt
Target: A point you can see within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 20 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: You conjure a minor bolt of lightning that streaks out towards a target within range, shocking them on impact. The lightning bolt causes minor burns, ignores metal armor, and cannot be dodged as it travels at the speed of light.


Name: Resistance from Air
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: 10 emotes
Range: Touch
Focus: No

Description: You surround a creature you can touch in a thin film of magical energy, attuned to the plane of Air. Whilst under the spell’s effects, air-aligned spells do not harm the target as greatly. Furthermore, they are immune to mundane dangers of wind such as electrocution, heavy winds, storms, and the deprivation of air at high altitudes, along with other hazards pertaining to wind and thunder.


Name: Shockwave
Target: A 5x5 wave originating from you in any direction
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: Self (5x5 wave)
Focus: No

Description: You generate a strong force that emanates in a 5x5 wave originating from you in any direction. Creatures caught within this radius are pushed back to the edge of the spell’s range and knocked prone


Name: Wall of Storms
Target: A solid surface within range
Duration: 3 emotes
Range: 10 blocks
Focus: No

Description: Targeting a solid surface you can see within range, you conjure an opaque wall of clouds, with thin streaks of lightning cutting between them. The wall is 3 blocks tall, 1 block thick and 3 blocks wide. Any creature within 2 blocks of the wall when it appears is shocked by a bolt of lightning that leaves a first degree burn, as is any creature that attempts to pass through the wall.


Adept - 3 Rune Spells

Name: Whirlwind
Target: A creature or object you can see within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 10 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: You whip your hand outward, whirling force quickly gathering in the air and surrounding an object or creature within range. That creature or object is shoved or thrown 1 to 3 blocks in any direction at the discretion of the caster. If they impact a surface, they take medium bludgeoning damage. If they do not impact a surface, they land on their feet.


Name: Air Shield
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: 5 emotes
Range: Self
Focus: No

Description: You summon a swirling cloud of wind that floats around your form, making it much harder for projectiles to strike you. For the spell’s duration, you gain immunity to attacks from physical projectiles. Magical spell attacks are unaffected.


Name: Chain Lightning
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 10 blocks
Focus: No

Description: You conjure a major bolt of lightning that streaks towards a creature within range, striking with a great deal of force upon impact and causing minor burns. From there, you may choose up to 2 other creatures within 10 blocks of the original target that the lightning arcs towards.


Name: Control Wind
Target: Self
Duration: Up to 5 Actions
Range: Self
Focus: Yes

Description: You take control of the air around you in a 5x5 cube, manipulating it to your will. This cube of control follows you as you move, and with it, you can create an updraft, downdraft, or force the air to weakly or powerfully blow in any direction you so choose as precisely as you wish within range of the spell. Projectile weapons such as arrows become much less effective if firing against the wind, but magic projectiles are unaffected. During each action, you can change the way the wind moves, but only once, and you cannot remove air from a space. The gusts produced by this wind are capable of forcing those moving against it’s direction to move at half speed, and small objects are thrown as hard as a normal mortal would throw them.


Name: Tailwind
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: Up to 5 emotes
Range: Touch
Focus: Yes

Description: You conjure the winds around a target you can see within range, and a strong gust of air begins to kick up around them. For the spell’s duration, both the target’s current speed and jump height are doubled.


Expert - 4 Rune Spells

Name: Smite
Target: A creature you can see within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 10 blocks
Focus: Yes

Description: You summon forth a bolt of crackling energy from the sky above to strike down a single target you can see within range, dealing immense damage upon impact - An impact that can bypass armor and cause third degree lightning burns - Stunning those struck for 2 actions due to horrific electrocution. This spell can only be cast when you can see the natural sky above.


Name: Hurricane
Target: A point within range
Duration: Instantaneous
Range: 10 Blocks
Focus: No

Description: The caster conjures a whirling, whipping wind that instantaneously ravages a 5x5 area, causing deep slashes to be inflicted upon anything within. These cleaves can slip through plate armor and cleave open iron chainmail, causing several minor wounds to lie on the bodies or form of anything within the range of the spell, comparable to broad slashes of a sword. Objects and creatures that cannot withstand the whirlwind’s force are cleaved into pieces.
